The #1 THING you can do to improve you current state of health.

The #1 THING you can do to improve you current state of health is to make sure you are consuming enough easy to digest, nutrient dense carbohydrates to support your life's demands

Yep, you heard me--CARBS HEAL!

Your body's preferred source of energy is carbohydrates. So, if you want to make MORE energy, so your body has ample energy to function AND heal--carbs are going to be your best friend.

👉Why easy to digest?

If you are in compromised digestive state (which is 90% of people), you do not want your compromised GI system to work harder, trying to breakdown hard to digest foods.
-Your GI is already struggling, why make it work harder?

👉Why nutrient dense?

Carbohydrates will increase cellular energy. Thus, anytime you produce more energy, you will require more nutrients.

👉How many Carbs?

Well, this will depend on you--your current health, current diet, energy expenditure, and your goals. For most women anywhere from 200-300 carbs daily is best. For some active women like @libbywescombe and @kittyblomfield, 400 carbs may be needed.

For most men, carbs should be anywhere from 250-500.

If you are moving from a low carb lifestyle, I suggest adding 10-20g each week, monitoring temperature and pulse and symptoms until you find the right amount that works for you.

Consume an equal amount of carbs throughout the day. Breakfast, lunch and pre-workout can be a little higher, due to expending more energy during these times.

👉What are the Best carbs?

This answer is also determined by the health of the person, current diet, energy expenditure and goals. Yet, for most people a diet high in fruits, juices (specifically OJ), honey, milk and well cooked fruit veggies (squashes) are best.

Soaked and well cooked starches like white rice, potatoes and oats can also work--again, it ALL depends on you, and what your body can handle.

👉Alone or combined with fat/protein?

Carbs should be combined with fat and protein to help support blood sugar.

When clients ask me what they should do to offset certain stressful life situations, workouts, activities, or whatever my FIRST answer is always make sure you are consuming enough energy--carbs.
